Congratulations to our First LPN Class!

Ten students recently completed the first ever Practical Nursing program to be offered by Patrick Henry Community College in Franklin County.  The students, who graduated and were pinned on December 9 at PHCC, were also recognized during a special ceremony at the Franklin Center for Advanced Learning and Enterprise in Rocky Mount on November 30.

During the pinning ceremony in a long-standing tradition, the graduating student nurses are presented with nursing lamps, which are lit as the nurses recite “The Nurse’s Pledge.”  Franklin County purchased the nursing lamps for this first inaugural class as a token of acknowledgement of the students’ accomplishment.

“Franklin County, as a governmental entity focused on improving employment opportunities for our community, is excited to be a part of, and an investor in this first cohort class of practical nurses graduating from PHCC at The Franklin Center.  Our partnerships with a number of entities to make this a reality are overshadowed only by the hard work and commitment of these graduating students,” said Franklin County Administrator Rick Huff.

The Practical Nursing Class of 2011, Franklin County Site, is comprised of the following students:  Tyrinda P. Carter, Axton; Tracey Y. Hairston, Martinsville; Charlene K. Hale, Fieldale; Leighanne M. Kiser, Martinsville; Melissa R. Linkous, Rocky Mount; Cliff A. Peay, Martinsville; Constance P. Sisk, Rocky Mount; Jennifer F. Taylor, Ridgeway; Sherri R. Thompson, Rocky Mount; and Tiffany F. Webb, Martinsville.

"The Franklin Center for Advanced Learning and Enterprise is proud to partner with Patrick Henry Community College, Carilion, and The Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission in this team effort.  The Mission of The Franklin Center is to promote and enhance workforce and economic development through lifelong learning.  Through this partnership, we are able to focus on demand medical occupations and bring that training home to Franklin County in a state-of-the-art facility.  This is a milestone in the lives of these students, but also for The Franklin Center as the first of many classes graduate," said Kathy Hodges, Franklin County Executive Director.
